THE URBAN PARADOX: Architecture Without Content, Graz, AT

The project for a new housing complex in Graz consists of four blocks – a perimeter block development surrounding three smaller blocks. The geometrical inner enclosures are slightly angled in order to fit in the perimeter and touch each other at the corners. The blocks are also facing away from each other. Stairs are positioned at the points where the outer building overlaps with the inner ones. Lobbies and additional municipal facilities are on the ground floor level. The three seven-storey high inner buildings rise above the entire complex and contain different gardens that are open to the public. The blocks are continuously connected through open galleries.
